The Aged Care Workforce Industry Council is delighted to see the Commonwealth Government’s continued investment in aged care through the 2022-23 Budget.

The additional $10.1 billion in aged care funding is a positive measure, which will support the aged care sector through a range of initiatives, as outlined in the National Care and Support Workforce Strategy and Aged Care Workforce Action Plan 2022-2025.

The Aged Care Workforce Industry Council knows that across Australia, in both residential and home care settings, the aged care sector is experiencing a shortage of workers. Much reform work remains ahead of us, to ensure that the aged care workforce is suitably skilled and able to deliver safe, consistent, and high-quality care services to older Australians.

We will continue to work with the government and other key stakeholders, including aged care providers, peak bodies, consumers and workforce representatives, to develop and implement solutions to bolster our aged care workforce and drive sustainable change.

Through collaboration, courageous leadership and development of innovative solutions, the sector will take a proactive role to ensure that older people continue to receive a high standard of care, and that the wellbeing of our workers remains a priority.
