ACWIC CEO, Louise O’Neill, has advised the ACWIC Board of her decision to resign her position due to personal reasons. As a result, ACWIC Executive Director of Policy and Engagement, Sarah McLelland, has been appointed to the role of Interim CEO, effective immediately.
Sarah is a highly-regarded public servant with more than 15 years’ experience across aged-care, disability and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health. She acted as interim CEO earlier this year.
Ms O’Neill joined ACWIC in July 2020 to lead the organisation’s implementation of 14 strategic actions emanating from Australia’s Aged Care Workforce Strategy ‘A Matter of Care’.
ACWIC Chair Libby Lyons said, “Ms O’Neill has made a significant contribution to ACWIC and its mission to build and shape the future aged care workforce. We wish Louise the very best and thank her for setting the organisation on a strong path to delivering on our purpose.”
Ms O’Neill said she was proud of the progress ACWIC had made against its charter. “The Council plays a critically important role in solving the workforce challenge for aged care by bringing the industry together and working to a united approach.”
Ms Lyons said that the ACWIC Board would commence a search process for a new CEO imminently.
“We’re well-placed to continue the momentum under Sarah’s leadership as we embark on the appointment of a permanent CEO”, she said.
