The Aged Care Workforce Industry Council says ‘Thanks for caring’ to all 360,000+ aged care workers in Australia.

On Aged Care Employee Day, and every day, we would like to thank, honour and recognise the contributions of all aged care employees – whether it be personal carers, registered nurses, chefs, maintenance, lifestyle and administrative staff and to everyone who provides leadership.

The Council’s CEO, Louise O’Neill says”Your commitment to caring is unmatched. It is not just a job, each day you are making a difference to an older person’s life no matter how small or large that may be.”

The past year has presented challenges such as the uncertainties around the COVID-19 pandemic and the scrutiny of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. The Council understands how challenging the work of aged care can be.

The Council oversights implementation of ‘A Matter of Care’ – Australia’s aged care workforce strategy. This works to address many of the known issues within the sector, such as attraction and retention of workers. We know a supported and well-trained aged care workforce is important to ensure older Australians receive high quality care – whether in a residential service or within their own homes. The Council seeks to work collaboratively with aged care employees to implement the strategy and will promote all opportunities on our website.

“It takes a special kind of person to dedicate their life to caring for others. People choose to work in aged care because they know the differences that they are making to older Australians. Thank you for caring and all the work that you continue to do” says Louise. Her personal thank you video can be viewed here.
